The red wine tradition of the VDP wine estate Kloster Eberbach can be traced back to the founding years of the former Cistercian Monastery. The monks of the 12th century brought with them from Burgundy the most challenging grape variety from Burgundy and started to cultivate it in the Rheingau. Already in the 13th century there are certified sources on the cultivation of red wines by Kloster Eberbach.
In Assmannshausen, definitely since 1507 Pinot Noir has been cultivated. From 1740 onwards, the planting of “Klebroth” (as Pinot Noir was called back then) on Höllenberg became predominant and since the 19th century it is almost exclusively Pinot that is grown here.
With this offer we would like to “tempt” you to come and visit us in the Rheingau of Bergstraße. We welcome you in our wine shops and wine bars. Please find more info under www.kloster-eberbach.de/weingut
