There are not many cloister wineries anymore where order members take over active parts. In Germany there is only one: The Wine Estate of Abtei St. Hildegard.  Its history can be traced back to the 10th century, to Holy Hidegard of Bingen.

The guiding principle of Holy Benedikt, to “live off the labour of the hands” is the spiritual foundation of the cloister wine estate. Managed by sister Thekla, Rheingau-typical fine Rieslings and classic, profound Pinot Noirs are manufactured. Besides careful and close-to-nature- cultivation, greening restoration methods play a key role.

This guarantees healthy soil and optimum supply of nutrients to the vines. Winemaker Arnulf Steinheimer masters the art of turning this potential into outstanding wines.
