Not only has the VDP missed the fact that Achim von Oetinger is one of those quality-orientated wine makers whom cannot bear to see outside the bounds of the association. Oetinger is a phenomenon, his cool and compact wines from first-class sites like Marcobrunn and Siegelsberg are anything else but mainstream, they polarize and… excite!

They fit the type of wine maker who is a brand himself: cool, relaxed and laidback; someone who takes his Harley to his work in the vineyards. His Rieslings are matured in steel tanks only; they are clear, sophisticated and show a firm structure due to long maceration.

The reward: Stuart Pigott regards the estate as Wine Maker Discovery of the Year; Gault Millau rewards the estate with three grapes in 2017.
