Schloss Vollrads is the name of a castle in the Hessian Rheingau, above the town of Oestrich-Winkel and about two kilometres away from the banks of the Rhine. It is one of the oldest wine estates of the world.  The history of this estate which only grows Riesling and which today owns a fully historically furnished castle, an impressive residential tower, a wine shop and restaurant, goes back more than 800 years.

Yet, today Schloss Vollrads is a completely modern estate and has managed like almost no other to combine tradition with modern technology in a harmonious and professional manner.  In addition to Schloss Vollrads´ excellent  wines, first-class events are on offer on the premises and our restaurant enjoys a fabulous reputation beyond the Rheingau boundaries. The wine estate which cultivates 80 hectares is a founding member of the VDP and its special feature is its 100% focus on Riesling.

Taunus quartzite slate, the predominant terroir of our vineyards, is an ideal and unique basis for the  growth of Riesling vines, the cool climate of the 50th latitude and the passion of the Rheingau people for their Riesling – all these factors are unbeatable reasons for “Riesling only”.
