THE FIRST RIESLING WINE ESTATE OF THE WORLD

Wine has been produced at Schloss Johannisberg for the past 900 years. For the last 300 years the world´s most noble white wine variety, Riesling has been solely produced here. 1775 Spätlese was discovered here by accident, one of the many stories around the wine which make this beverage so mythical.

That is the reason why guests like German poets and philosophers  Goethe and Heine and statesmen have visited us and were treated with special wines from the „bibliotheca subterranea“, the famous treasure chamber of the castle bearing valuable rare wines from centuries past.

Since the beginning of the 19^th century, the wine qualities of Schloss Johannisberg are differentiated by colours. In the days past, sealing wax was used, today, we use coloured capsules. Many visitors from Germany and abroad visit us for cellar tours, wine tastings, concerts and restaurant.
